Secret Santa Rules Builder
Set the rules for your group’s gift exchange: budget, sign-up deadline, exchange date, and gift preferences. Edit the finished text, share it in a chat, or print it so everyone knows the plan.
Why Agree on the Rules Ahead of Time
Even people who know each other may have different expectations. One person may expect handmade gifts, another may include shipping in the shared budget, and someone else may want to reveal their identity after the exchange. Agreeing on the rules helps settle these questions before the draw.
How to Set Rules for Your Group
Choose your group and how you’ll exchange gifts, then set a budget and dates. Select any preferences, such as using wish lists, allowing handmade gifts, or excluding alcohol. Decide whether Secret Santas will reveal themselves, add any other rules, then review and edit the finished text.
How to Share the Rules
Pin the rules in your group chat and send them to new participants with the invitation. For an in-person exchange, print a copy. The builder organizes your agreements but doesn’t enforce them. If plans change, the organizer should let everyone know.
Example Agreement
“Everyone prepares one gift for their assigned recipient. The budget is up to $25. We’ll meet on December 25. Keep your Secret Santa identity private until the exchange.” Customize the builder for your group. It prepares the text; participants are responsible for following the rules.
